Of Wood And Man
In this place
where plains enfold a restless sky
where eagles sweep
whilst creatures pacify their young
you stand
grim-faced
indifferent to the passing day
you are the man
the man is you
inseparable
he seeks the skeletons
that lie beneath your hallowed heath
to rape
to yield;
condemn your knotted dreams
you shield your weeping wood
misunderstood
diminished
in a desperate truth
that turns to dust
with every barren vow
and trampled trust
bough’d down
conceding victory to greed
your seedling souls unsown
In this place
no longer graced by eagles’ sweep
where earth was never yours to keep
you fill the grave of wood and man
who took
but never gave
